although I know perfectly well that you are wonderfully devoted to me, I thrill at reading, "Dearest, I love you with my whole heart and soul...I never knew what it meant to love until we belonged to each other, and there is nothing I would not do to make you happy....I am entirely your own. "Those beautiful phrases, sweetheart, have burned themselves upon my heart. I could not wish more convincing avowals of love. And of course I trust you and understand you, my dearest. I have faith in you, strong like my love of you. I wish I could describe the feeling of delight and comfort I have as every now and then I have a sort of new realization that you are my wife and I your husband. In earlier years one of my forms of nightmare was to dream that I was married. Perhaps it is the psychological effect of that old experience
