[11-3-42] Mon nite U.S. Army Fort George G. Meade, MD Dearest, It has been some time since I wrote to you we had a nice stay out in the country it was perfect fall weather in oak & pine woods the leaves were all colors I know you would enjoy such scenery we had good stuff to eat better than in camp. Got your letter with Hazel's note in it today we are doing a lot of gun practice now we even practice after supper some next week we take tests I don't care much wheather I pass or not there is no glory in it. the boys that worked hard at Croft didn't even get a medal Bunce & I are still togeather this is still a heck of a place no brains to manage I think brains are short in the army Bunce & I go to the P.X. and get ice cream cookies & candy bars and manage pretty well
