Fort Dodge, Iowa
March 13, 1941

Dear Lloyd,
   Since the pen leaks and I doubt if there would be enough ink anyway for the whole letter, I'll just scratch along with pencil. Just getting the envelope addressed got my hand all smeared with ink. 
   Arrived safe and sound and only about thirty minutes behind the regular schedule this morning. Since I couldn't arouse anyone at the "Y" I went to the hotel and slept until nine o'clock. 
   Finally was able to see Mother by about eleven. She seems pretty good. I talked briefly with the doctor this morning. He said most of the tests had been negative. They are feeding her acid as she didn't have any in her stomach. He also said some arthritis in the spine. It is sort of degenerative in nature and they know no cure for that. However, she isn't in pain now like she was and has not
