155 Highland Ave August 15, 1942 Detroit, Michigan Dear Laura: Have been a little slow in answering your letter of August 2 because I have waited for developments here, but they haven't developed yet. Here is my situation. I, myself, cannot drive although I have a beginner's permit which expires October 10. So you see I have passed the first test but do not have a car at my disposal, nor can Bill, the person who was going to teach me, help me much because his hours are so different from mine. As a last resort I paid a fee to the Automobile Club and am now scheduled for ten lessons with them, beginning Sept 10 and continuing thruout the month, hence it would be October before I secured a driver's license even if all went well for me. I enrolled with them about six weeks ago, but they are very busy and one must wait
