817 - 19th St. SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa January 6, 1942 Dearest, Its late and I should be in bed instead of trying to write a letter at this hour. I've been home alone all evening without interruptions. But all I've done is read, listen to the radio and think. I should have gone back to work, but didn't. I didn't write again last night as I'd sent the two letter yesterday with just 3¢ postage. And as I couldn't bring myself to getting this off early, none will be mailed today. But this will be written today and mailed in the morning. A good letter you wrote in Washington. I'm glad if you had a pleasant change for a day. I'd like for you to show me some day some of the historic spots you get to visit while in the army. Don't you think tourist's clothes will be better for sight seeing than a uniform? Mrs. Rieniets talked on phone with me. She said she'd often thought how nice it was we'd found each other. Dr. is at a hospital at Great Lakes. Very busy but pleased to get surgery assign-
