No. 110 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co. D. 39th Inf. Regt. A.P.O. 9 % Postmaster New York, New York Mrs Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 5, 1943 Dearest, We did not work today because the Fourth came on Sunday. And it was a real celebration to me because I was home and the mail man brought your June 17 letter. And he even rang the bell, which he never has done before because he knows I'm usually away. They censored the names giving your exact route to [Gafaa?] but every other name and battle was there, so I'm glad you put down that much. The blacked out part doesn't aggravate me, I'm glad to have whatever is left, and practically all of yours was left. This is the first letter that was really a V-Mail photostatic copy and it came through in good time. I borrowed Hargers' National Geographic maps, had our Atlas and the maps in the April and May Gazettes. Then Hazel, Earl and I got down on the floor and really studied all the material with your letter right at hand. I had dinner about 3 o'clock at Hazels. Then I came home and went on a picnic at Ellis with Leone, Jack, & Uncle Lew. We had a real nice time and tried to get some pictures of the boat. They had me as guest so I didn't take or do any thing. It was cool with a breeze and so mosquitoes did not bother. I had a good day today and I got work done too. I cleaned our room and I washed clothes besides all the visiting. I do so hope the mail has caught up with you and that you at least got the cable promptly. I love you, Laddie. Your wife, Laura
