No. 113 Pvt. Lloyd Davis, 37420240 Co D. 39th Inf. Regt. A.P.O.-9 % Postmaster New York, New York Mrs. Lloyd Davis 817-19 St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 8, 1943 Dearest, Such a busy day. I'm starting on a week's vacation tomorrow. I didn't know soon enough to plan things, but it was take it now or not at all. So I'm glad to get it. I worked at the office until 10. Flora, my stenog, helped me too. I'd like stuff in better shape before vacationing but because I'm not leaving C.R. it won't matter. If any problems came up they would just call me. I saw Lynn at Garnets. He and Garnet were carrying on a stupid conversation! I don't expect to do much on this vacation except loaf. Then when I'm in the mood I will continue jobs around the house and if I can get Mr Churchill under control I'll maybe get all the estate business settled, except for the transfer of the property. That story Wilkins told of seeing Bob C in Kansas City was made up of whole cloth. Bob called his folks last night from NYC and said he had never been west a bit, and was just transferred from [Bolling?] to NYC. Wilkins stepson dived into [Prairie?] Creek and broke his back the same day Wilkins told that story and it seems "they" are associating the accident as justice! I'll write again tomorrow of course. And I'll be in my place soon. I love my husband. Remember all the secrets. Laura [doodle of two smiley faces]
