183 To set colors. 1 tablespoon sugar of lead to 1 gall water let the goods lie in it for 1 hour-then wash in soap suds. Only once is necessary. Hard water is rendered soft and pure by merely boiling - a 2 ounce phial in a kettleful of water. The carbonate of lime & any impurities will be found adhering to the phial. The water boils even quicker at the same time. To remove grease from the floors or boards. Apply hot cornmeal mush - let it dry on - if not all out - apply again and again - till it is.
