neutralized with hydrochloric or sulphuric acid which is added very carefully, SO[subscript]2[/subscript] and NO[subscript]2[/subscript] escape with effervescence. If other proportions of the salts are taken, much less hydroxylamine will be produced. After neutralization, the solution is thoroughly boiled and then allowed to cool and evaporate very slowly to dryness. A white residue of long transparent crystals of sodium sulphate and hydroxylammonium sulphate remained. The hydroxylammonium sulphate is separated from the mixed residue by alcohol, -- that is the alcohol dissolves the hydroxylammonium
