[page]47[/page] reduces salts of copper, gold and silver. The copper must be excepted unless it is present in an alkaline solution. It has been demonstrated that potassium salt in the presence of potassium hydroxide reduces salts of copper and silver in the cold very similarly to hydroxylamine. This is the reaction which takes place, -- the hydroxylamine sulphonate is converted into sulphite and sulphate, the cuprous oxide is just half what it would be were hydroxylamine first formed: --
