The hyponitrous acid is resolved into nitrous oxide and water. If hydrochloric acid is added after this reduction, much sulphur dioxide will be liberated. The reaction will cease to continue as soon as the solution becomes dilute. If hydroxylamine-sulphonate (one gram) is added to water (one liter) with a little of a dilute solution of copper sulphate and potassium hydroxide, an opalescent blue color will be produced but no presence of cuprous oxide.
