6 plant. The alkaloids embrace most of our narcotics and poisons in general. For convenience they may be separated into those containing oxygen and those not containing oxygen. To illustrate the former we may mention morphine, strychnine, atropin and quinin; for the latter, [cocaine?], nicotine, asparagine. The non-nitrogenous Waste Products comprise the Organic Acids, Resins and Balsams, Etherial Oils and Glucosides. The Organic Acids are very generally present in plants either [free?] or in combination with organic bases.
