Just above the large glands (cc) are arches or crescents of thick walled bast cells (d). The smaller glands (e) are found arranged between the medullary rays (f). The resin passages found in the Pine are next considered. The section represented in Fig. 1. Plate VIII is from a comparatively young shoot and the glands (a) are therefore not very large. They have supporting cells with much thicker walls than the cells immediately adjoining and are lined by the secreting cells.
