38 Smaller glands (b) are seen, not so fiully developed, in the woody part of the section. Fig. 2. of the same plate represents a section through the bark of the Balsam Fir. The glands are larger than those found in the pine although the one shown in the figure - (a) is smaller than usual. The gland is surrounded by closely arranged imcleated cells and lined by thin-walled secreting cells. Between the glands are loosely placed undeated cells and often are seen evidences of other glands forming. Latex tubes come next, in connection with our study of resin passages.
