13. Ceratodon purpureus Brid. The plant is very [illegible]. Branching in close clusters. Branches of equal hight. Found in dense mats, has a dirty-dark-green or red-brown ap- pearance. Leaves lanceolate, [ carinate?], entire margin reflexed slightly papillose at the base. Borders opaque, hav- ing two rows of rectangular cells at the margins. Cells of the border much smaller than the interior cells of the leaf. The areolations? is peculiar. The cells are very nearly square and very distinct.
