35. an oogonium - Pl. III fig. 4-a - and an antheridium -- same fig. b. but here for the first time we see a motile fertilizing cell - the spermatozoid. The antheridium appears as a rather slender lateral branch, without much chlorophyl. A transverse partition is formed, cutting the end off from the rest of this branch. Often the branch becomes much curved. In the end, thus separated are formed.
