41. spermatozoids have the same appearance as the androspores, except that they are very much smaller. The oogonium is always formed from the upper portion of a dividing cell. It swells up into a round body, filled with dense protoplasm. The protoplasm contracts, as in Vancheria, into a round mass in the center, with a border of hyaline protoplasm near the place where the oogonium opens.
