again, point-up. Replace the bottle, basin and cover in the case and put it in place. Remount the transit telescope. The plates of glass in the "house" should be perfect in form with the opposite sides parallel. In order to eliminate any error due to the prismatic form of the plates, one side of the cover should be marked and half the observations taken with that side toward the observer and half with the other. Observations with the artificial horizon are much more satisfactory than with the sea horizon. All errors of observation are halved when we divide the observed angle by two.
