If one or two of the residuals are made larger than the rest of the sines and a better result can be obtained by throwing them out we reject them and cross out the whole observation with a heavy line. When this is done we must obtain a new mean and a new series of residuals as the number of observations is changed. If the work has been checked it is unnecessary to check it over again.
