If, however, corn is planted late nature seems to have wonderful power in the hastening of its maturity. It does not grow so much to stalk but seems to direct its growth to the reproduction. If every thing is favorable the plantlet will have three or four blades in twelve or fifteen days after planting. and is then ready for the cultivator, but in the majority of cases the harrow is more effective at this stage than the plow.
