shows the broad thalamus with one ganglion at the right side. The large opening in the center with the peculiar concentric rings around it, is the third ventricle, and the opening below is the aperture by which it communicates with the fourth ventricle. A few pigment cells are seen on the edges. Plate XXIII -- shows the concentric rings of the optic ganglion, their position and number with some pigment cells on the outside.
