of my own fade into the necessity for entertaining him. So I sent for a car and took him out to a base hospital where we went through the gaily decorated wards, talked to some wounded men, looked on awhile at a ball game and listened to a band concert. It was interesting and worth while but not my way of celebrating. Tonight I dined at the club where we all went so Martine and the maid could have the afternoon and evening off. Afterward I handled the usual evening grist of dispatches - and here I am. But the story of my travels is not getting written. I can't do it tonight. Perhaps I can tomorrow. If I can't then you'll probably never read that thrilling narrative. In spite of the disappointment of my design I am well content tonight because the reflections of today have made me realize I have such good reason to be content. Who else can celebrate today the great good fortune of having been so richly rewarded for knowing Daphne a year? I have ventured to believe that you have thought today of a year ago and what has happened since and loved your old hubby more on that account. That being
