We arrived at the top simultaneously with a priest and a flock of children who had come up the other side. The priest herded his youngsters to one side and came over to speak to us. "Bon jour, messieurs," sezze "Bon jour, monsieur," sez we. With that enthusiastic opening we speedily got acquainted. We told him a few pleasant lies about ourselves to satisfy his curiosity and he explained to us that he had won the medaille militaire, which he was wearing as a decoration for his priest's robe, by service
