(IOWA LULAC GLANCES cont.) 4. RESOLUTIONS COMMITTEE: Ernest Rodriguez, Davenport, Chairman, notified the assembly that 4 resolutions have been submitted: RESOLUTION #1: WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and sincere sorrow that the League of United American Citizens of Fort Madison, Council 304, has suffered the loss of a devoted friend and broth in MIGUEL REYES, and WHEREAS the officers and members of Fort Madison Lulac Council 304 use this resolution to announce to this assembly the untimely death of brother Miguel Reyes.....therefore BE IT RESOLVED that this assembly observe one minute of silence in memory of our departed Miguel Reyes....and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be added to the minutes of this convention held on June 6, 1970 and a copy be forwarded to the family of Miguel Reyes. (Submitted by Felix Sanchez, Council 304, Fort Madison. Accepted.) RESOLUTION #2: WHEREAS a disaster struck the city of Lubbock, Texas, and caused an immediate need for financial assistance to approximately 8000 Mexican Americans int hat community....and WHEREAS Lubbock Lulac Council has set up headquarters to assist other Lulac councils wanting to help....therefore BE IT RESOLVED that each council represented at this assembly seriously consider giving as much financial help as possible. (Submitted by Davenport, Council 10. Accepted) RESOLUTION #3: WHEREAS in the past it has been most difficult to select a man and woman of the year and WHEREAS the purpose of these awards may be best served by eliminating the Man and Woman of the Year Committee....therefore BE IT RESOLVED that each council submit a letter on each of their candidates for this award at least one week prior to the state convention to the host council and be it.... FURTHER RESOLVED that an uninterested committee select the man and woman of the year, place the name of the winner of each in a sealed envelope, and forward it to the president of the host council. (Submitted by Felix Sanchez, Fort Madison, Council 304; Accepted) RESOLUTION #4 WHEREAS we recognize the need of uniting our people to work for the common goal of social betterment....therefore BE IT RESOLVED that the Lulac Councils of Iowa delegate representatives to attend organizing sessions of LA RAZA UNIDA in Iowa when notified and to participate in the implementing the actions arrived at by means of the democratic process. (Submitted by Ernest Rodriguez, Davenport. Accepted) GOOD AND WELFARE: Jerry Vargas, Davenport, Council 10, gave his views on LA RAZA UNIDA and presented a motion that Lulac join this new group. The assembly voted against joining at this time until further study is made. Relative to the report of State Organizer Jesse Ramirez, Davenport, Council 10, concerning the formation of a new Lulac Council in South Des Moines, Ila Plasencia, Council 306, Des Moines, spoke in opposition to such a move, stating that there are not enough people for a new
