WORK EXPERIENCE: (Cont'd) Area Board for Migrants, Davenport, Ia. April 1973 to Sept. 1974 - United Way funded Spanish Speaking Center. Interviewed, counseled and placed men and women seeking employment. Met with employers as to job openings and coordinated referrals to Spanish Speaking job seekers. Interpreted for Spanish Speaking before employers and agencies. Met periodically with Lucia Quintanilla of Illinois Migrant Council, merit employment council, and affirmative action agencies. Asked to give employment speeches to colleges and civic organizations. Performed outreach by making bilingual radio commercials. Performed outreach duties between clients and Visiting Nurses' Charles White, Salvation Army and Ed Mecca of Friendly House. VOLUNTEER WORK: Performed outreach work in helping to relocate Spanish Speaking people from Cook’s Point barrio. Assisted them in housing, employment, education, medical and language problems. From 1940’s to 1950’s performed liaison activities between Cook’s Point residents and city officials, school administrators, police department, and business representatives. Worked with NAACP and St. Ambrose in relocating families. From 1950 to 1977 have performed outreach activities in the Spanish Speaking community, LULAC Council #10, city officials, state agencies, local industry and business leaders. Interpreted for Spanish Speaking and Police Dept. Resource person for St. Ambrose College, public schools, Melvin McNeal of East Side Neighborhood Devel., Rachel Sierra of Central & Western Neighborhood Devel, Jessica Lamantia of Bishop’s Spanish Speaking Committee and Quad-City’s Public TV Committee. 1974 Mayor’s Citizens Nursing Monitoring Committee, 1976 United Way Budget Committee member and 1977 Panel II Captain United Way Budget Committee. PERSONAL: Lifelong resident of Davenport. Bilingual Bicultural widow. Mother of 6 grown children. Able to communicate effectively with men and women of different races, professions and income levels.
