Viewpoint, August 28, 1973 I am Ernesto Rodrigues. this month two members of the United Farm Workers Union headed by Cesar Caves Were killed. The Union blames the growers, the police and the Teamsters Union for these deaths. The charges are based on the fact that the law enforcement officers have openly supported the growers. Growers, foremen and scab laborers have been openly carried guns and have used them on several occasions and deputies have refused to make arrests when approached by farmworkers. The teamsters in their attempt to make over the unionization of farmworkers have used hoodlums to beat up Union members. The United farmworkers' Union is fighting for its very survival against the unholy alliance of the teamsters, police and growers. Now more than ever they need the support of every decent American who believes in dignity and self-determinations. The right of the farm workers to bargain collectively can be won at the grocery counter by shoppers. We ask you the public to embrace the cause of justice for the farmworkers and to refrain from being non-union lettuce and grapes. Ask the produce manager to show you the black eagle brand of the United Farm Workers Union on the carton the produce was shipped in. Viva La Casua! This is Ernesto Rodriguez for Viewpoint
