Page 5 The family is extended through Godparent relationships This extended family creates a large spiritual economic support network of Padrinos,madrinas,commadres have a special relationship with the family. It is the Mexican mother who is the glue that keeps the family together. A mothers love for her children knows no boundaries. Even when children rebel against family and society, mother's love continues unabated. Suffering in silence is a demonstration of her deep love for her children. You will rarely see a Mexican mother place her children in foster homes or orphanages. The Mexican mother would rather go without basic necessities in order to provide for the needs of her children. Self-sacrifice is an innate part of her character. Join me in saluting mothers here tonight Grandparents and other elder members of the family hold a respectful and honored place within the Mexican family. Very seldom will you see grandparents living alone or living in nursing homes.
