2 Today of the 10 million Spanish speaking people in the U.S. 55 percent identify themselves as of Mexican descent. Their median age is 17.8 years compared to 8.4 reported for Cubans. The educational level of all Spanish sur-named 35 years old or older is 8.5 years of school compared with 12 for all other and years behind the blacks. Per capital [sic] income for Spanish-speaking is $5,600 about 70% of that of other families. The unemployment rate is twice that of all other Americans. It is claimed that there are more Chicanos in San Quentin prison California than are found on all campuses of the University of California of Los Angeles where the Chicano population numbers close to a million. These statistics bear testimony to a conquered, oppressed, and socially deprived people. A people who before the arrival of the white man to this hemisphere had developed a civilization that surpassed that of Europe in many respects. Let us go back to the history of these people if we are to weigh their historical and cultural greatness in true perspective. Although the Mexican is a descendent [sic] of many tribes of Mexican Indians such as the Chichimeca, Toltec, Olmec, Zapotec, Huichol, Maya, Cora, Tiascala, Otomie, Tarasco etc., I'm going to recount the history of the Aztec who ruled all of Mexico and whose influence reached down thru Central America and possibly south America and the southwestern U.S. According to the legendary history of the Aztecs as related to the Spanish conquistadores, the Aztecs came from a land to the
