--3-- achievements have been monumental in view of the obstacles he has had to face in fact the point is that the Mexican American is in a much better vantage position to unify and accomplish his aims. I think we can create civil rights movement as quarter backing some benefits that have occured to our ethnic group. There are only two organizations representing the Mexican American people on a national level. LULAC, a social cultural, and educational organization and the GI forum, basically a veterans family organization, a political social organization whick like LULAC puts stress on educational achievement. Because of the peculiar interests of each organizations they both exercise a important function in the interests of the Mexican American people. Where one works effectively in a particular area of activity or community the other is equally effective in another area of activity or community. But there are areas of activity especially on the national level and especially so concerning legislative programs in which the two are both engaged in playing separate strategy where they could be more successful exerting joint effort with greater leverage. This movement which I have outlined is being attempted with a measure of success here in the Spanish community of Davenport by LULAC and GI Forum. I hope the wise and dynamic leadership that seems to be characteristic Iowa LULAC will weigh the import of my proposal and will adopt it in the not too distant future.
