Fort Madison, Branch OF THE National Association for the Advancement of Colored People NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 18, 1965 Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 REGULAR BRANCH MEETING ! SUNDAY - November 21, 1965 5:30 PM City Hall 8th Street - between Avenues E & F Please try to attend! The local Branch is sponsoring a BAKE SALE which will be held, Saturday, November 20th, at Sears. It will start at 9AM. As everyone knows, Fort Madison's NAACP has been honored by having been selected to host the Annual Iowa state Conference of Branches in 1966. Careful and detailed planning will have to be done if the meeting is to be informative and beneficial to the participants. Having successfully undertaken other projects, we are confident that the coming convention will be no exception. Lots of workers will be needed! May we add your name to the growing list of volunteers??? Following are the names of companies and unions in 14 states who have entered into agreements for separate seniority lines in southern states and against whom complaints have been filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by the National Association. A total of 214 complaints have been filed with the Commission by Herbert Hill, NAACP Labor program director on behalf of NAACP members in 14 state Also charged with violation of Title VII, were the State employment services of Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, and North Carolina. Companies and unions are: United States Steel and the United Steel Workers of America Pittsburgh Glass Company and the International Association of Machinists International Paper Company and the Pulp, Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers Union United States Rubber Company and the International Chemical Workers Union Monsanto Chemical Company and the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union ( The above listed have entered into agreements for separate seniority lines in the southern state) Complaints were also filed against : International Unions of Operating Engineers Brotherhood of Painters Bricklayers, Masons and Pasterers Union All of Cincinnati, Ohio University of Iowa Libraries, Iowa Women's Archives
