Fort Madison, Branch OF THE National Association for the Advancement of Colored People SPECIAL JUNE 5, 1964 Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 URGENT! ALL MEMBERS OF THE FORT MADISON BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE ARE ASKED TO SEND A TELEGRAM TO: SENATOR BOURKE HICKENLOOPER SENATE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON, 25, D.C. DON'T DELAY! From all indications, Senator Hickenlooper may possibly be among those who will not vote for cloture on Teusday, June 9, should the vote be take then, as planned. It is very important that we let him know there are people in Iowa who are interested in equality for all on a national scale, regardless of their race, color or creed. Those persons who are against such legislation, evidently have been much more vocal than the Iowans who are for the bill which is now pending. Without a cote for cloture,...civil rights legislation will not be passed in the near future. As all of us know, this will lead to chaos and results which could be disasterous for everyone. Telegrams are more important in the eyes of the Senators than letters, although the latter are not disregarded. However, this weekend, people interested in the rights of man being granted to all Americans, are being asked to make this statewide campaign a successful one! TELEGRAPH SENATOR HICKENLOOPER.......TODAY! URGE HIM TO VOTE FOR CLOTURE! University of Iowa Libraries, Iowa Women's Archives
