Fort Madison Branch OF THE National Association for the Advancement of Colored People NEWSLETTER, IKE SMALLS TROPHY WINNER OF '64, DECEMBER 17, 1964 Fort Madison Iowa 52627 The Annual Branch Meeting will be held this coming Sunday December 20, 1964, at 5:30 PM at City Hall, At this time, the election of officers of the local branch and youth council will take place. Also, each person will have to vote for six (6) members of the National Board. Because most of us are not familiar with the men who are candidates for the Board positions, the names of the nominees and some information about each of them. Also on the ballot is the name of the man chosen to serve from Region IV. Each member of the Board is elected for a term of three years. One slate is the one which was presented at the National Convention by the elected nominating committee and accepted by the delegates to the convention at a plenary session. The six candidates - at - large are running independently but have submitted petitions which have been signed by not less than one-hundred (100) members of the Association who are in good standing. Although there is not a contest for the Regional candidate or the local Officers, their names must appear on the ballot. Don't forget to bring contributions for the Christmas food collection! They can be brought to the meeting on Sunday or taken to the places which were listed in the last newsletter! The end of the year membership drive is still on ! If every member would make his or herself responsible for just one (1) new member, this campaign would be a great success ... and, needless to say, the Fort Madison Branch would go over the top! Youth Council members are asked to remember that they are supposed to be present at the meeting on December 20th, also ! 'Once to every man and nation comes the moment to decide, In the strife of Truth with Falsehood for the good or evil side; Some great Cause, God's NEW Messiah, offering each the bloom or blight, Parts the goats upon the left hand and the sheep upon the right, And the choice goes by forever 'twixt that darkness and that light. 'Then to side with Truth is noble when we share her wretched crust, Ere her cause bring fame and profit, and 'tis prosperous to be just; Then it is the brave man chooses, while the coward stands aside, Doubting in his abject spirit, till his Lord is crucified, And the multitude make virtue of the faith they had denied.' -Lowell REMEMBER TO COME TO THE ANNUAL MEETING.. TO VOTE ! BRING YOUR FOOD CONTRIBUTIONS ....and, BRING ANOTHER MEMBER! University of Iowa Libraries, Iowa Women's Archives
