Fort Madison, Branch OF THE National Association for the Advancement of Colored People NEWSLETTER MARCH 14, 1968 Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING. SUNDAY - MARCH 17, 1968 CITY HALL - 5:30PM The NEGRO HISTORY WEEK programs, which were sponsored by the Fort Madison, Branch were interesting, enlightening and quite successful. We wish to thank everyone who took part in the week long activities, especially those who worked so hard on the programs and then, presented them. The Inter-racial Home Visits program is proving to be quite successful, and many of us feel that this is going to be the most effective means of breaking down the communication barrier. It is our plan, to have at least two of these visits a month, but ideally, we would like to see one take place each week of the year. Anyone who would like to entertain a group in their home or participate in one at another home, should contact Virginia Harper at 372-3542 or 372-7335. We are also interested in having exchange visits with youth participants. Anyone or any group wishing to take part in this program should contact us, also. ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE?...IF YOU HAVE MOVED...HAVE YOU CHANGED YOUR ADDRESS ON THE RECORDS? DEADLINES for registering to vote in Iowa, are as follows: To be eligible to vote in the PRIMARY on September 3, 1968, you must be registered by August 24, 1968. To be eligible to vote in the GENERAL ELECTION in November, you must be registered by September 3, 1968. REMEMBER,...VOTING is a DUTY of the RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN. We cannot remind you too often, (and, evidently, neglect to do so often enough), to support those businesses who purchased ads in the NAACP Iowa State Conference Souvenir Booklet. There is no percentage in supporting bigotry by spending money with persons who refused to buy ads from us, but before and afterwards, did place ads in other organization's booklets. Make your dollars works for freedom! The Annual Region IV Conference will be held April 26-28, 1968, at the Antlers - Plaza Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The local branch is entitled to three voting delegates who will be elected at the next regular membership meeting on March 17. IF you are not already a member,...Join the NAACP....join the fight for freedom for all! University of Iowa Libraries, Iowa Women's Archives
