editor: JOHN L GERGEN honorary editor: JOE FORTIER NOTES: Walt Liebscher coming down with something-or-other, and expects to endure an operation sometime soon. In wich case you guys had better drop a lot of letters. Niel DeJack expects a notice from his draft board any time now, ans see the remants of the MFS before he leaves. Robison and all the Chicago Wampires seem to be rather anxious for his opinion of Mpls. Why, we wonder? Pvt John Gunningham recently sufered a change of address, which may be had for the asking. We'd print the new designation here, but for the fact that Washington disapproves. Maill will be forwarded to him from the old address, ofcourse, however. --jlg PRIVATE FORRY'S CORRESPONDENCE FORT FAN By that I mean a fellow I found at MacArt, not an admirer of Charkes. Standing in the long, snaky line to see the movie of the evening. I spotted a fellow 50 fellows ahead of me with a foot-thick mag in his hands. It coud mean only I thing: a Ziff-Davis Quarterly! In the theater I sought out the Q-Man, sat a talkt with him. He was enamored of "Lefty Feep" yarns. And another reader had sighted him in line!, given him his barracks adres. I got that, too, & after the show zent to look up this fellow, name of Flores. Twas pitch dark, pouring rain & the brks as far away as it possible coud be & not be in the Bay. When I got there there was a slight delay till I coud see the kid. But when I did he turnd out to be a very nice Texan from El Paso, first name Doyle. He'd been reading stf 3 yrs. Fave: AST. Nearest thing to stf he could get, Doc Savage & the "Waves of Death", lay on his bunk. He had no memory for authors' names but remembrd story titles & plots fairly well. He read the readrs section & often had wisht to correspond with someone & in particular join a club. I told him a bit about the LASFS, which delited him. "O--", he volunteerd, just remembering it from his conversation earlier in the eve with the Rapchap, "I understand there's a science-fiction author here at the Reception Center. He works on the paper, too." I laft. "That's me." "What did you say your name was?" he askt. "Same as it is," I replyd. (G, I am monstously clever, rnt I?)*** Today I had lunch with, & interviewd, Alan Ladd, now plain Pvt Ladd, the psychopathikiller of "This Gun for Hire". He said it was "just work to kiss Veronica Lake. Wonder how he got by the Insanity Board, making statements like that? *** "A Roving Fan Gathers Others" - old Stfan Proverb. In the Beginning there was we, leaving the Fort. Met Morojo at Clifton's for dinner. As we were about to depart Walt Daugherty spyd us. Developt we 3 were headed for the same show: "I Married a Witch". After Witch we boarded car together, to find Milty on it! Milty was headed toward Paul Freehafer's. I accompanyd him. Such is life in large citys. -- Pfc FJA Some ideas have been discussed about the abandonment of the NFFF project for the duration, at least. Apparently there are not enough interested persons left to continue with the idea. Is any fan club willing to carry on long-distance ESP or telepathy with the MFS? Quite awhile ago, we performed ESP experiments with the 5 standard cards, and had a lot of success. We've noticed recently that other clubs seem to be taking to it, and we'd like to hear from them. --jlg
