"'Forry-Made Fans' Ephemeral?"---such was the jocular jibe of Paul Freehafer at Mr A re his "proto-J" Miss Beverly Browne, who came down town (from the Motion Picture Academy) to 2 or 3 meetings in the company of the one J & left in the car of the other (Russell J.). When La Bev did not show up at a recent meeting, Forry read in explanation a portion of correspondence which he termd something on the order of "a semi-official resignation from the chapter by an ex-non-member. " It seems the Browney is "strikly the studious type" in these scientifiction affairs & prefers to absorb our absorbing stf alone at home. Forry was responsible for touching her off with "Odd Jne", "The Moon Pool", "Black Flame", "Conquest of Space", Science Fiction, Astonishing, WT, Tom & Esp; has no relinquisht her to the hands of Mr H to complete her fantastic downfall with storys of his wreckamendation, Technocracy & sofistry á la SaL. Farewell to Freehafer: Paularis' Publisher, returning to Idaho for the summer, was praisd (& rightly so, sez me) as one of the outstanding club-workers, & gifted on the Society's behalf with a going away present of a copy of the brandnew Welles bk, Invasion from Mars. A private party for Paul was held afterward, Bruce Yerke, Mark Blanck, Eleanor O'Brien & myself participating with 4e as host. In connexion with the aforementiond bk based on the "War of the Worlds" broadcast, it myt be mentiond a spectacular pyrotechnical display entitled "Battle of the Planets" was presented in LA lately at the OlympiColiseum with Orson in pOrson to "shoot the works".... %%% %%% %%% %%% %%% POLL RESULTS--Art L.
