b5 DISAPPOINTMENT DEPT: LeZ pulled what it considered a neat trick in its September issue (#49), but no one seemed to notice it or comment upon same. About 100 copies of that issue were sewed, not stapled; in red and black thread. Being financially embarrassed, staples were out of the question, so we pressed into service a new LeZ reader, Mary Wheeler , late of Bloomington, now of Jessup, Maryland. To our knowledge, that was the third time a fanzine has been sewed together instead of stapled. Back in 1935 the Chicago SF League published it's Fourteen Leaflet with a thread binding; and within the last year or two we seem to recall another fanzine appearing with such, altho we cannot find it or remember it now. Come come, dear readers.... aren't you observant, or were you so enthralled with the contents that you never noticed the binding? Lez-ettes chapter 1: Vampire chapter 2: Mirror Chapter 3: Longtime no see chapter 1: Jupiter chapter 2: Red Spot Chapter 3: Measle chapter 1: Dragon chapter 2: Long Tail chapter 3: Draggin' chapter 1: Ooze chapter 2: Years chapter 3: Youse FRENZIED INTEREST DEPT: We have at hand, believe it or not, just two answers to our question last issue, "Have you a complete Spaceways file?" Weaver-Beaver answered with a yes. Jack Speer said that he had a complete file except for one copy which a Washington friend keeps in his clutches. We suspect various other persons have files but never got around to mentioning it. Koenig and Swisher both make an effort to keep complete files ... at least on all the better fanzines. THINGS THAT MAKE US MAD DEPT: Every so often we get letters that start like this: "Whats the matter with LeZ of late? Haven't you got better material than that? If the stuff is that scarce, I'll have to get down to work and write something for you." And then, what do we get? (If the guy bothers to send anything at all?) Well, usually something we cannot possibly use, such as pure fiction intended for Space Tales, or a weighty treatise on the gaseous content of the uranian atom. We weep. INVITATION DEPT: Like Campbell and his annual plea for new authors , we too can use some. But we can't use fiction, or science articles, or impossible things such as we have (in the past rejected and which later appeared in Scienti-fun (much to Washingon's later regret.) We do need fan humor of good quality; satire, fan articles, and such. The material in this issue [[?]] fairly representitive of what is desired. Because of the fanzine shortage, we stand ready to increase the size of LeZ if the material can be had. What's holding you back? MUM'S THE WORD DEPT: At least once in your life you have surely found yourself in this fix: You know a terrific secret, one of interest to fandom --- but you are pledged not to reveal it. Sure, almost everyone has mentioned such a thing in their fanzine. Okay, we know one, but we can't tell it. Sooner or later, even by the time this reaches you perhaps, Unger will have the news in his sheet. It concerns a pro mag. So when you read it somewhere, just nod wisely and say: "LeZ knew it first."
