To: Clinical Faculty, House Staff Physicians and Dentists General Administrative Staff and Department Heads

We are pleased to announce the consolidation of the University Hospitals' interpreter services within the Department of Social Service. Effective February 1, 1987, the interpreter services previously provided by the Volunteer Program Language Bank have been transferred to the Department of Social Service. The newly reorganized Interpreter and Translation Service provides comprehensive language services for non-English speaking and hearing-impaired patients and families during clinic visits, hospital stays, or other needs for communication with hospital staff. 

The consolidated Interpreter and Translation Service has been developed to ensure the continuity and consistency of communication services for patients with a limited understanding of the English language, and to increase thee accessibility of interpreters. 

All interpreter services are now available by contacting the Department of Social Service at 356-1967
