It is further requested that the position be classified at Professional Pay Grade 05.
The person who fills this position must function as a professional person. He/she must possess not only an ability to communicate in both written and spoken Spanish, but he/she must also be able to translate and interpret highly technical terminology into terms that are understandable to persons from various educational backgrounds. 
In addition to expert knowledge in Spanish/English and English/Spanish communication, the person must feel comfortable in working with all members of the staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, including Clinical Faculty, House Staff Physicians, and Administrative Department Heads. He or she will be expected to participate as a team member in conferences with other hospital personnel. 
The person must possess the ability to make decisions and use judgment in working with both patients and professional staff. 
Part of the responsibilities of this position includes the identification and development of programs to enhance communication among Spanish speaking patients and their families. The person who fills this positions will be responsible to providing education programs for hospital staff members relating to Spanish speaking patients and their culture, their needs and problems.
