133 August 2, 1918 Belovedest,- One thing I feel completely mine in this house: it is privacy. My room is on the first floor and is the only one on this floor occupied at night. To get into the house I have to unlock two doors. Then I pass through a long corridor, dodge the stairway, and come into my own room. The locks do not work easily; it takes a man with a cool head and steady hand to get through those doors even when he has the keys. If a burglar should break his way in I should want to give him something as a token of my admiration. This house well represents the French idea of a home. In France the home is a kind of cloister whither the family
