I should like very much, dearest, to have your frank answer as to whether you really want to go to Iowa City to live. Here is, briefly what it will mean to us: Certainty of an income of about two thousand. A chance to have a real home which we can furnish to suit ourselves. One to three months of leisure each year for me, and the consequent freedom to travel about. Pleasant relations with a great number of people who know much about one thing, most of whom are too one-sided to interest us greatly but some of whom will be as fine friends as we could find anywhere. Friends for you who know something about music. For me work that is fairly interesting and pleasant, prospect of advancement by slow but sure steps, - always with the surety that I can spend a great deal of time with you.
