Aug ?, 1918 Dearest Hubby,-- The household machinery is not running very smoothly today, so I am sitting in the dining room keeping Helen and Edna from throwing pots and pans at each other while they wash the lunch dishes. It is Helen's fourteenth birthday, and Edna just remarked, "Every time you have a birthday you get a whole year meaner."
