"Rights Fund Gets $105 From Sale" A total of $105 will go to aid the Mississippi civil rights work of Davenporter Carole Gross as a result of the latest in a series of "cones for Carole" ice cream socials. The socials are being sponsored to Davenport by a group of women connected with area civil rights organizations. More than 160 persons attended the Sunday social at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rybka, 1109 Arlington Ave., Davenport. "All refreshments were donated", said Mrs. Cecile Cooper, chairman of the sponsoring group. The first social, a week ago, netted $75. The money is sent to the Carole Gross - Anne Lindsay Freedom Fund in care of the State University of Iowa chapter of the Student Association for Racial Equality. Miss Gross, who graduated in June from the State University of Iowa, is currently involved with other summer civil rights workers in setting up a Community Center in Harmony Community. a Negro town of 300 just outside of Carthage, Miss. Miss Lindsay is a former resident of Davenport. The next in the series of socials is scheduled for Aug. 9. " Carole Gross Fund-Raising Social Is Set" "Cones for Carole," the second in the series of ice cream socials being sponsored to raise money for the Carole Gross - Anne Lindsay Freedom Fund, will be held from 7 to 9 pm. Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rybka, 1109 Arlington Ave. More than a hundred Quad City residents attended the first social last Sunday when $75 was raised for the fund. Carole Gross, a resident of Davenport, and a recent graduate of the State University of Iowa, and Miss Lindsay, formerly of this city, are in Mississippi taking part in the voter registration and freedom school activities of the Student Association for Racial Equality. The social is open to the public. "Donations of ice cream and refreshments will be welcomed," Mrs. Cecile Cooper, chairman of the freedom fund project, said today.
