2H / DES MOINES SUNDAY REGISTER Nov.3, 1985 Going Places Maybe you otter bear it, visit Brookfield in winter By POLLY FLUG Of The Register Staff The famous Brookfield Zoo in Chicago is offering a holiday gift to visitors. Admission to the zoo will be free from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas Day. Maybe visiting a zoo in the winter - particularly in frigid Chicago - is a new idea to you, but the Brookfield Zoo wants people to visit in the cooler season and see animals who are in their element during this time of the year. The Snowball Express, a new transportation system at the zoo will make a winter visit more comfortable. The Snowball Express is a shuttle bus system composed of two 25-foot-long buses with a seating capacity of 24 persons and wheelchair accessibility. The wintertime shuttle will follow a prescribed route, making eight scheduled stops of each run. There will be a brief narration about the outdoor exhibits as the tour continues. A ride on the Snowball Express is #1.25 for adults and 75 cents for children and senior citizens. Riders will receive a ticket allowing them to board the shuttle throughout the day. Brookfield Zoo is located atFirst Avenue and Thirty-first Street in Brookfield, Ill., and is open every day. While in Chicago to visit the zoo, you might want to take advantage of one of the two special packages offered by the Barclay Chicago Hotel. The Thanksgiving packages include a one-night, two-night or three-night stay
