STANDARD FORM NO [?] Office Memorandum UNITED GOVERNMENT TO: Director, FBI DATE: April 22, 1948 FROM: SAC, Omaha SUBJECT: STANLEY GRIFFIN EDNA GRIFFIN INTERNATIONAL SECURITY – C ALL INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN IS UNCLASSIFIED DATE 02-2[illegible] 1027049 BY AUC 60309 TAM/DCG/JW In view of the most recent Bureau instructions to the effect that leaders of the Communist Party who are dangerous or potentially dangerous to the internal security of the country are to be placed on the Security Index list, the captioned subjects have been extremely active in the Des Moines Branch of the Communist Party and EDNA GRIFFIN is at the present time secretary and treasurer of the Des Moines Branch of the Communist Party. According to Confidential Informant [*CENSORED*] meetings of the Communist Party are being held at the home of [*CENSORED*] and according to the informant subject EDNA GRIFFIN has been very enthusiastic in her activities relative to the Communist Party in Des Moines. The informant stated that Edna Griffin, due to her position as secretary and treasurer of the Des Moines branch of the Party, corresponds with the Communist Party District Headquarters in Omaha. He further advised that in the event records are kept relative to membership in the Communist Party she would have those cards in her possession at home. b2 b7C b7D Enclosed herewith are requests for Security Index Cards to be made on each of the captioned subjects. Active investigation is being conducted relative to the captioned subjects and a report reflecting their activities will be subjitted to the Bureau in the near future.
