OM 100-4095 b7C [ ] of Romania, Europe. [ ] declared that after the meeting EDNA GRIFFIN came to her and criticized her severely stating, " You do not know nothing about [ ]. She is the saviour of Romania and a great woman. You are reading the wrong publications and you are not getting the same information that I get concerning [ ] activities in Romania." (U) [ ] advised on July 23, 1952 [ ] meetings held at the home of [ ] Des Moines, one being held in [ ] b2 b7C b7D (U) [ According to [ ] this latter meeting (U) involved the peace conference held in Chicago June 29th - July 1, 1951, known as the American Peoples Congress and Exposition for Peace, which the subject and her husband STANLEY GRIFFIN, attended [according to [ ] [ ] also advised] that (U) during the spring of 1951 when a strike was going on at the Midwest Bag and Burlap Company, Des Moines, Iowa, in an attempt to unionize the company employees, the subject helped prepare leaflets and other materials for strikers, setting out the purpose of the strike. [ ] ] also advised that the subject (U) gave the employees advice on how to conduct the strike. [ ] (U) further advised that the subject also became involved in a laundry workers strike at the Still College of Osteopathy, Des Moines, Iowa in July 1951. [ [ ] stated] that EDNA became (U) involved in this latter strike through the request of an unknown person who contacted the subject by telephone. [ ] is (U) of the opinion that the person who called was an individual in the Packing House Workers Union, United Packing Wokrers of America - CIO in Des Moines, Iowa. Writings In July 4, 1949 evening edition of the " Des Moines Tribune", a letter from the subject to the editor was published in the Editorial Section. This letter defended the ideals of PAUL ROBESON and criticized the " Des Moines Tribune" for publishing an article which indicated that ROBESON was rather stupid for falling in with the Communist Party policy in his desire -7-
