This article concluded by stating "Communist grass imported from the other side of the fence" by "a great-hearted boy of a man" who will go down in history as one of the world's outstanding citizens of the Twentieth century." The article was signed EDNA W. GRIFFIN, 1108 Third St., Des Moines, Iowa. [On September 10, 1951, Confidential Informant [ ] ] of (U) known reliability, furnished a photostatic copy of a communication addressed to [ ] in the case entitled: " United States VS WILLIAM SCHNEIDERMAN, ET AL , USDC, Los Angeles, California, CP-USA" in a prosecution under the Smith Act. This photostatic copy, which is being retained in the case file of instant matter is a copy of a handwritten letter to [ ] from EDNA GRIFFIN with her address set out as 1108 3rd Street, Des Moines, Iowa, dated August 20, 1951. The letter in substance stated that there are many who admired the courage of [ ] and that she, EDNA GRIFFIN, is drawing inspiration and energy to find ways and means to help for peace, because of this courage of [ ] b2 b7C b7D Contacts between Subject and Communist Party Leaders. Confidential Informant [ ] advised that WARREN BATTERSON, District Organizer of District #32, CP-USA, was a frequent visitor at the home of EDNA GRIFFIN, 1108 3rd Street. This information was secured in January 1949. [ ] indicated that he received this information from STANLEY GRIFFIN, the husband of EDNA GRIFFIN. [ ] further advised in 1950 that BATTERSON was still in contact with the subject and had asked her why she did not hold more Communist Party meetings in Des Moines and that he, himself, would be a more frequent contact with the Des Moines Party in the future.
