OM 100-4095 ADMINISTRATIVE DATA By letter under date of September 10, 1951, the Los Angeles Field Division advised that a photostatic copy of a communication addressed to Mrs. [ ] had been furnished to the office by [ ] anti-subversive detail of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office during August 1951. [ ] is a defendant in the case entitled " UNITED STATES vs. WILLIAM SCHNEIDERMAN, ETAL, USDC, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, COMMUNIST PARTY, USA" in a prosecution under the Smith Act. This photostatic copy is a copy of the handwritten letter to [ ] from EDNA GRIFFIN with the address 1108-3rd Street, Des Moines, Iowa dated August 20, 1951. The letter in substance advises that there are many who admired the courage of [ ] and expressed sympathy for the fact that she was arrested early in the morning, according to the papers, before she could feed her children. The letter also indicated that EDNA is drawing inspiration and energy from [ ] courage to find ways and means to help for peace. The letter also expressed hope that [ ] should soon be free. This photostatic copy is being retained in the exhibit file of instant case matter. b7C INFORMANTS Confidential Informant [ ] is a result of physical surveillance conducted by SAs [ ] and [ ] on OTTO EDVOLD ANSTROM, Omaha file 100-4768. The logs for this surveillance are retained in the case file of OTTO ANSTROM. b2 b7C b7D Confidential Informant, [ ] is [ [] who furnished the information on various occasions to SA [ ] of the Minneapolis Division. The information credited to [ ] was contained in the report of SA [ ] dated September 4, 1951 at Minneapolis, Minnesota entitled " COMMUNIST INFILTRATION OF THE PROGRESSIVE PARTY, INTERNAL SECURITY - C". Confidential Informant, [ ] is [ ] who is being developed as a security matter informant by the Omaha Division. Information concerning him as concerning his reliability has been furnished to the Bureau. b2 b7C b7D LEADS THE CHICAGO DIVISION At Chicago, Illinois Will, if possible, verify the attendance of Mr. STANLEY and Mrs. EDNA GRIFFIN at the American Peoples Congress and Exposition for Peace. -4-
