[Sophia Valbuena] OM 100-4095 Sioux City, Iowa on December 19, 1951. This trip was made in connection with the arrest of one [empty box] in December of 1951 by the sioux City Police Department on a charge of prostitution. According to Informant [empty box] EDNA MAY GRIFFIN has been active in the investigation of this arrest and is attempting to push a possible Civil Rights law suit against the Sioux City Police for the arrest of [empty box] [empty box] a negro, on the charge of prostitution. b2 b7C b7D In connection with this visit, subject contacted Reverend BRIGHAM, President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Sioux City, Iowa, and also talked before the negro ministerial alliance in Sioux City. She also attended two meetings of the United Packing House Works Union in Sioux City, Iowa, in connection with this arrest suit and was accompanied by [empty box] On December 23,1951, there was another meeting at [empty box] [empty box] at which were present OTTO EDCOID [illegible] STROM, a [empty box] EDNA GRIFFIN and [empty box] [empty box] b7C On December 26, 1951, there was another meeting at [empty box] at which [empty box] of the United Packing House Workers Union, Des Moines, Iowa, [empty box] of the United Packing House Workers Union, were also present. [empty box] who was present at this meeting. According to Informant empty box] EDNA GRIFFIN, [empty box] and his wife, also went to Sioux City, Iowa, on December 8, 1951 in connection with the [empty box] [empty box] matter. b2 b7C b7D Confidential Informant [empty box] of known reliability, advised that the subject his been an active member of the Communist Party since her arrival in Des Moines, Iowa. Informant [empty box] advised that the subject was head of the Des Moines Branch of the Communist Party located in Des Moines, Iowa, and had always complained to WARREN WILLIAMS BATTERSON, former District Organizer of District #32, the State of Nebraska and Iowa, that she did not have a sufficient number of members of the Communist Party to work with in Des Moines, Iowa. It was the oclief of Informant [empty box] that subject is sincere Communist Party member and that the Communist Party would always come first in her opinion. Confidential Informant [empty box] of known reliability, advised that the subject's minor daughters, [empty box] received copies of "The Daily Worker", an east coast Communist newspaper, on September 17, b2 b7C b7D -2-
