OM 100-4095 AT CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA: It was ascertained that [blank box] [blank box] a correspondent of the subject, is [blank box] On May 31, 1952, the car of [blank box] was observed by Confidential Informant [blank box] of known reliability, parked in front of the [blank box] home. According to Informant [blank box] was known to be a member of the Communist Party form approximately 1946 until at least September 1950. OnAugust 7, 1951, Confidential Informant [blank box] of known reliability, advised that an [blank box] who said he was a member of the American Peace Crusade spoke at a meeting held at the [blank box] Cedar Rapids, [blank box] the night of [blank box] indicated that the invitation to this meeting was extended by [blank box] and that at the meeting [blank box] indicated he advocated trade with Russia, recognition of the Chinese Communist Government, and said that America did not belong in Korea and we should settle the war. b2 b7C b7D The Congressional Committee on Un-American Activities statement issues on the March of Treason, February 9, 1951, cited the American Peace Crusade as an organization which "the Communists established" as a "new instrument for their Peace Offensive of the United States" and which was heralded by "The Daily Worker", an East Coast daily Communist newspaper, "with the usual bold headlines reserved for projects in line with the Communist objectives." According to Confidential Informant [blank box] of known reliability, [blank box] was stated to be a member of the Communist Party. Investigation in Chicago, Illinois, disclosed that one [blank box] [blank box] a correspondent of the subject, [blank box] presently assigned to [blank box]. Her home address is listed as [blank box] Des Moines, Iowa. There was no information concerning [blank box] regarding any Communist affiliations or tendencies. b2 b7C b7D Investigation at Chicago, Illinois failed to establish further verification of the subject's attendance at the American People's Congress and Exposition for Peace held in Chicago, Illinois on -4-
