OM 100-4095 ADMINISTRATIVE DATA The following information is being placed on the Administrative Page due to the limited number of persons present when Informant [blank box] secured the Information and in as much as it is believed that if the information were known to outside sources it would possibly the identification of Informant [blank box] b2 b7D [blank box] advised that as of May 11, 1952, subject has been elected President of some ladies club in her church in Des Moines, Iowa. He stated that this was part of the party policy for those who are known members to create as many respectable persons as friends so that these friends can be character witnesses in case the party member is ever picked up. On May 13, 1952, OTTO ANSTROM was present at the home of the subject and was complaining that no one was getting the "Daily Worker" or the Sunday "Worker", east coast Communist newspapers. OTTO stated that both EDNA's and [blank box] subscriptions had run out and he told EDNA to be sure and renew her subscription. b7C On May 16, 1952, when EDNA returned to Sioux City, Iowa where she has visited concerning the [blank box] trial. she advised that the trial had been lost. OTTO told EDNA that the trial was not a complete defeat because the sentiments had been aroused and the women had been aroused and felt like they were doing something. OTTO condemned the trial system and said that there is no Democracy in America and it is ll a farce. [blank box] advised that on March 17, 1952, when RICHARD MORFORD was present in Des Moines, Iowa, EDNA had persuaded a group of mothers in Des Moines to sponsor a speaking engagement for Dr. MORFORD. EDNA hoped later to go on with this group of mothers into a so called mother's council. b2 b7D As is known to the Bureau, RICHARD MORFORD[x'd out?] is Executive Director of the National Council of American-Soviet Friendship, Inc. At the meeting a film was shown concerning Soviet mothers and MORFORD made a speech. After the meeting a social was held at the home of [blank box] Des Moines, Iowa, and FRED STOVER, [blank box] EDNA GRIFFIN and three or four mothers of the council were present. b7C -4-
